We Design_ DESIGN Nato nel 1978, Elmar è oggi un brand dinamico, la cui identità è riconosciuta a livello internazionale. La nostra passione è progettare, realizzare e commercializzare soluzioni d’eccellenza per gli ambienti della cucina e del bagno. In un mercato in continua evoluzione in termini di materiali, know-how e ricerca della qualità e del bello, abbiamo sempre risposto accettando sfide quotidiane e proponendo soluzioni innovative e di pregio, ma allo stesso tempo capaci di offrire soluzioni a tutte le fasce di mercato. La nostra tradizione di cooperazione con architetti e designers ha proposto soluzioni, linee e prodotti, capaci di dialogare con qualsiasi soluzione architettonica e di spazio. In particolare, dando forma alle potenzialità e all’expertise quarantennale dell’azienda, lo studio C+S Architects ha disegnato @HOME SYSTEM e SKIN SYSTEM, due sistemi che traducono il lifestyle italiano in uno spazio ricco di soluzioni esclusive e personalizzazioni, uno spazio sospeso tra tradizione e innovazione. Lavorando con lo studio di Carlo Cappai e Maria Alessandra Segantini, grazie alla loro particolare sensibilità nell’uso dei materiali, della tecnologia e della luce e lavoro sul dettaglio, con @HOME SYSTEM abbiamo spostato l’attenzione dall’oggetto architettonico al sistema di relazioni con lo spazio, progettando e realizzando un nuovo sistema capace di reinventare la casa attraverso una serie di nuove relazioni tra gli ambienti. Se @HOME SYSTEM (2014) aveva anticipato di dieci anni le attuali tendenze del mercato trasformando la cucina da macchina funzionale in spazio da abitare capace di estendere il proprio ambito a tutta la casa, costruendo l’atmosfera e le relazioni tra lo spazio e i suoi abitanti, SKIN SYSTEM mantiene quei principi ma si concentra sul rapporto con l’uomo rendendo speciale l’esperienza di uso dello spazio con una raffinata maniglia che è possibile declinare in verticale e orizzontale: una struttura aperta che trasforma la cucina in uno spazio da inventare. In particular, giving substance to the company’s potential and forty years of experience, C+S Architects designed @HOME SYSTEM and SKIN SYSTEM, two systems transforming the Italian lifestyle into a space full of exclusive and personalised solutions poised between tradition and innovation. In the collaboration with Carlo Cappai and Maria Alessandra Segantini, known for their particular sensitivity in the use of materials, technology and light, and attention to detail, with @HOME SYSTEM we shifted the focus from architecture to a system of spatial relations, designing and developing a new system that reinvents the home through a series of new relationships between the spaces. While @HOME SYSTEM (2014) was ten years ahead of current market trends, transforming the kitchen from a functional machine into a living space whose scope was extended to the entire home, creating the atmosphere and relations between the space and its occupants, SKIN SYSTEM is based on the same principles but focused on the human relationship, enhancing the experience of using the space through a sophisticated handle in either a vertical or horizontal version: an open structure that transforms the kitchen into a space all to be invented. The various components, albeit industrially produced, can be customised in size and colour, recreating the memory of a warm and inviting atmosphere with the same attention to detail as if they were made by hand. The kitchen is recomposed, no longer as a mere system but rather a series of elements floating in our memory, waiting to be interpreted: a large table or island to gather around eating, talking, looking at each other and preparing food, a fire around which to sit and work, an elegant sideboard and a flexible pantry, a bookshelf in which to collect books and precious objects. 14

Elmar ha deciso di rendere pubbliche le informazioni che riflettono l’impatto economico, sociale e ambientale dell’azienda, dal 2020 condivide con i propri stakeholder la storia dell’azienda, filosofia e approccio all’interno del suo Bilancio di Sostenibilita. L’azienda ha concentrato i propri sforzi sulle tematiche energetico-ambientali, con lo scopo di misurare le proprie emissioni, sia dirette che indirette, secondo il GHG Protocol e, inoltre, ha implementato un sistema di monitoraggio dei consumi energetici: nel gennaio 2022, infatti, si e sottoposta volontariamente a una Diagnosi Energetica. La Diagnosi Energetica ha permesso ad Elmar di identificare una strategia di riduzione delle proprie emissioni con interventi di efficientamento energetico per garantire miglioramenti tecnologicogestionali. Dalla strategia produttiva e progettuale alla scelta delle materie prime e dei fornitori, tutte le fasi di produzione, riciclaggio e trasporto sono sviluppate nel pieno rispetto dell’ambiente. Le Sustainability_ Elmar’s strategic approach to sustainability Elmar has always afforded special attention to the principles of environmental sustainability, embarking on a virtuous path to create an integrated ESG – Environmental, Social, Governance – strategy, identifying ways to tangibly intervene during the development stage and conscious actions arising from the need to intensify efforts and increase transparency towards stakeholders. Elmar has chosen to disclose information regarding the company’s economic, social, and environmental impact, sharing its history, philosophy and strategy with stakeholders in its Sustainability Report since 2020. This decision stems from the company’s desire to share with its stakeholders the steps taken thus far to accomplish various goals, including the reduction of its environmental impact and promotion of sustainable development, thereby attributing its stakeholders a crucial role. Elmar is committed to continuing its path, intensifying its contribution to ESG issues through a shared action led by the company’s directors and management and involving all stakeholders, in a process of integration allowing the company to raise awareness and develop shared value in a clear framework regarding its impacts and risks, without neglecting economic and financial considerations. Elmar recognises the crucial importance of ESG issues and, to reinforce its commitment, has chosen to adopt its own Sustainability Policy articulating the company’s guiding principles and values defining its approach to identifying sustainable development actions and strategies. The company has focused its efforts on energy-environmental issues with the aim of measuring its own direct and indirect emissions according to the GHG protocol, and has also implemented an energy consumption monitoring system, undergoing a voluntary Energy Diagnosis in January 2022. The Energy Diagnosis led to the identification of a strategy to reduce Elmar’s emissions, adopting energy efficiency measures ensuring both technological and operational improvement. From the production and design strategy to the choice of raw materials and suppliers, all stages of production, recycling and transport are developed in full respect of the environment. The furniture frames are made from Idroleb eco-friendly panels guaranteeing the lowest formaldehyde emissions, and the lighting systems strutture dei mobili sono realizzate con pannello ecologico Idroleb che garantisce la piu bassa emissione di formaldeide e i sistemi di illuminazione prevedono l’utilizzo di led che consente un forte abbattimento dei consumi. La maggior parte dei materiali utilizzati per i sistemi cucina sono riciclabili al 100% e il 70% dei materiali acquistati provengono da fornitori che si trovano ad una distanza massima di 100 km dall’azienda. Per contribuire alla riduzione delle emissioni indirette Elmar, da oltre 10 anni, produce e consuma energia da fonte rinnovabile grazie a un impianto fotovoltaico installato sul tetto della sua unita produttiva e sta valutando ulteriori investimenti strutturali. Inoltre l’azienda applica da sempre un’accurata procedura di raccolta e smaltimento degli scarti di fabbricazione e ottimizza i volumi di mobili e accessori durante il trasporto. I progressi e l’aggiornamento dei dati e dei KPI e la loro integrazione verranno condivisi con gli stakeholders tramite i documenti di rendicontazione e le attività di comunicazione dell’azienda. all use LEDs in an effort to significantly reduce consumption. Skin. (testo di Carlo Cappai e Maria Alessandra Segantini) Abitiamo spazi fluidi dove sono scomparse le stanze, i muri, le porte. Ci muoviamo a casa fluttuando come tra le pagine di un tablet. I confini e le soglie si sono spostati verso i sistemi builtin che abitano la casa insieme a noi e la fanno funzionare: le cucine, gli armadi diventano pareti attrezzate, ricche di occasioni per estendersi, comprimersi, trasformarsi. Skin è il nome che abbiamo scelto per il nuovo sistema cucina di Elmar. Skin, la pelle è la ‘beautiful necessity’ che avviluppa il funzionamento di ogni sistema (sia esso un edificio o una cucina) e la mostra al mondo. E il mondo la ammira e la rilancia, la copia, la mette in mostra concentrandosi solo su uno dei nostri sensi, sulla vista. E’ invece possibile restituire alla pelle il suo significato profondo di soglia, di spazio di connessione tra interno esterno? Di protezione di un sistema fragile e sofisticato quale quello del nostro organismo? Quel limite tra forma e funzionalità, quella soglia tra immagine e contenuto ci intrigava. E allora abbiamo cercato quell’istante, quel gesto, quel momento in cui utilitas (la funzionalità) e venustas (la bellezza) si incontrano. E l’abbiamo trovato nel preciso momento in cui una mano afferra una maniglia che si arrende alla presa. E’ la carica emozionale della maniglia, l’elemento che può riunire o separare spazi contrapposti: mette in relazione o separa. La maniglia è l’attimo in cui questi mondi si toccano. Ciascuno ha della maniglia un’esperienza cosí diretta che non se ne cura, come quei gesti che siamo abituati a fare senza pensarci, usciamo ed entriamo senza soffermarci, ma se andiamo alla sua essenza, la maniglia è sinonimo di libertà. Aprire, chiudere, scoprire, svelare, nascondere… tutte azioni che passano attraverso una maniglia. E la maniglia cerca la mano, la nomina e ad essa si adatta tanto più quanto meglio è studiata e realizzata. E la mano cerca la maniglia, rispettosa o dissacrante, timorosa, ardita o solo timida. L’emozione della scoperta quando si apre la cantina dei vini durante un meeting di lavoro informale, i colori delle verdure che inondano lo spazio mentre si prepara insieme la cena, il profumo di una torta a sorpresa preparata per l’arrivo dei ragazzi dopo la scuola che pervade la stanza… E’ quella maniglia, quel dettaglio di cui non ci curiamo, quel piccolo segno che ci regala queste emozioni. Ricche di valore simbolico, nel passato le maniglie sottolineavano gli ingressi principali, Skin. (by Carlo Cappai e Maria Alessandra Segantini) We live in fluid spaces where rooms, walls, and doors have disappeared. We navigate the house floating as in the pages of a tablet. Boundaries and thresholds have moved towards the built-in systems that inhabit the house with us and make it work: kitchens, wardrobes... Skin is the name we have chosen for the new .elmar kitchen system. The skin is the ‘beautiful necessity’ that envelops the functioning of every system (be it a building or a kitchen) and shows it to the world. And the world admires it and relaunches it, copies it, puts it on display by focusing only on one of our senses: sight. Is it instead possible to give back to the skin its profound meaning of threshold, of space of connection between inside and outside? Of protection of a fragile and sophisticated system such as that of our body? That limit between form and function, that threshold between image and content intrigued us. And so we searched for that instant, that gesture, that moment in which utilitas (functionality) and venustas (beauty) meet. And we found it in the precise moment in which a hand grabs a handle that surrenders to the grip. It is the emotional charge of the handle, the element that can bring together or separate opposing spaces: it relates or separates. The handle is the moment in which these worlds touch. Everyone has such a direct experience of the handle that they don’t care, like those gestures we are used to making without thinking about it, we go in and out without pausing, but if we go to its essence, the handle is synonymous with freedom. Opening, closing, discovering, revealing, hiding… all actions that pass through a handle. And the handle seeks out the hand, names it, and adapts to it the more the better it is studied and made. And the hand searches for the handle, respectful or irreverent, fearful, bold or just shy.The thrill of discovery when the wine cellar opens during an informal business meeting, the colors of the vegetables that flood the space while preparing dinner together, the scent of a surprise cake prepared for the arrival of the kids after school pervading the room… It’s that handle, that detail we don’t care about, that little sign that makes these experiences and emotions possible. Full of symbolic value, in the past the handles underlined the main entrances, they were invisible to hide secret passages, missing in the doors of erano invisibili per nascondere passaggi segreti, mancanti nelle porte dei fossati dei castelli o nelle mastabe (le tombe egizie) perché dovevano lasciare fuori i nemici le prime, gli spiriti del male le seconde. Sottostando ad importanti processi di trasformazione sulla base delle leggi ergonomiche e dell’innovazione tecnica della produzione industriale, le maniglie si raccontano tramite la levigatezza, lo spessore, la loro arrendevolezza o resistenza. Nel concepire la nuova cucina Skin per Elmar, abbiamo iniziato dalla maniglia perché proprio la maniglia è quel momento che mette in relazione la cucina e la sua pelle. L’attenzione è tutta rivolta alla maniglia di Skin, a quel dettaglio, a quel gesto, a quella presa. La maniglia disegna la struttura di Skin. Orizzontale. Verticale. Allineata. A intervalli. E’ una linea sottile in acciaio brunito o inox satinato. Volevamo che fosse presente, ma minimale, che disegnasse una struttura aperta da completare liberamente con ricchezza dei materiali delle ante (legno, acciaio, vetro) o dai sapori, odori e colori che esplodono al tocco della mano. Quel dettaglio diventa allo stesso tempo composizione e esperienza. Disegna e scandisce la composizione di tutto il sistema. E’ la chiave che apre al mondo magico della cucina Skin. La sua sezione, visibile all’apertura dell’anta, racconta il suo carattere minimale, ma presente nel disegno elegante di un profilo aperto, studiato in modo che fosse minuto, ma resistente, facile e piacevole nella presa sia se usato in verticale che in orizzontale, in modo da dare le massime potenzialità compositive al sistema. Il sistema Skin è allora una pelle nel senso più ricco del termine. E’ la soglia tra due mondi ed è proprio il dettaglio della maniglia di Skin che fa in modo che i due mondi si tocchino. Le radici dell’architettura moderna si fondano nel dettaglio, che non è stile o ornamento, ma è elemento fondamentale di una sofisticata sapienza costruttiva che ci ha fatto incontrare con Elmar che riesce a leggere nell’unicum dell’assemblaggio finale l’unicità e la poesia dei suoi frammenti. the castle moats or the mastaba (Egyptian tombs) because they had either to keep out enemies (the former), or the evil spirits (the second). In conceiving the new Skin kitchen for .elmar, we started with the handle because the handle is the very moment in which the kitchen and its skin relate.The attention is entirely directed to the handle of Skin, to that detail, to that gesture, to that grip. The handle draws the structure of Skin. Horizontal. Vertical. aligned. At intervals. It is a thin line in burnished steel or satin stainless steel. We wanted it to be present, but minimal, designing an open structure to be freely completed with a richness of the materials of the doors (wood, steel, glass) or with flavors, smells, and colors that explode at the touch of the hand.That detail becomes composition and experience at the same time. Draws and scans the composition of the whole system. It is the key that opens up the magical world of the Skin kitchen.Its section, visible when the door is opened or as a special detail, tells of its minimal character, but present in the elegant design of an open profile, designed to be small but resistant, easy and pleasant to grip both when used vertically and horizontally. horizontal, to give the maximum compositional potential to the system.The new kitchen system for .elmar is then a Skin in the richest sense of the word. It is the threshold between two worlds and it is precisely the detail of the Skin handle that makes the two worlds touch.The roots of modern architecture are founded in detail, which is not style or ornament, but a fundamental element of sophisticated constructive knowledge that made us meet with .elmar. From a different point of view, as designers and manufacturers, we are both interested to read in the unicum of the final assembly the uniqueness and the poetry of its fragments.
Skin 01_Texture Disegnare una cucina è disegnare uno spazio piuttosto che un oggetto. E’ composizione dello spazio ma è allo stesso tempo cura del dettaglio e scelta dei materiali, delle loro relazioni e della relazione con la luce. Per questo abbiamo scelto di farci accompagnare nel racconto delle composizioni di Skin dallo scultore spagnolo Eduardo Chillida, che disegna lo spazio la materia, il vuoto e la luce. In Skin Texture, lo spazio vuoto della maniglia, diventa frame di composizione di linee verticali e orizzontali, suggerendo una piacevole interferenza nel sistema classico di concepire i sistemi per la cucina. Con Skin si può giocare a comporre la cucina perché ogni composizione può usare liberamente elementi verticali e orizzontali costruendo il frame per poi lavorare con materiali differenti, la pietra, il legno, i laccati, l’argilla, …. Qui abbiamo deciso di declinare insieme pietra, legno e superfici laccate su un frame in acciaio inox. La sfida di combinare tra loro materiali molto differenti accostando la delicatezza e morbidezza del legno con la resistenza di una pietra ricca nel disegno delle tessiture naturali e la neutralità delle superfici laccate bianche, diventa capace di arricchire delicatamente lo spazio con un’atmosfera accogliente che da sola arreda e trasforma la cucina in uno spazio living. Con questo progetto la cucina è allo stesso tempo spazio, ma anche un oggetto ricco ed elegante che rispecchia la personalità dell’utente, che ha contribuito a disegnarlo e sceglierne i materiali. La maniglia è stata utilizzata in verticale nell’area delle colonne e in orizzontale per l’isola trasformandosi nel prezioso dettaglio di contatto tra la pietra e le superfici laccate dell’isola: un’ombra elegante che suggerisce le potenzialità del sistema. Skin 01_Texture To design a kitchen is to design a space as opposed to an object. It is composition of the space, but at the same time attention to detail and the choice of materials, how they interact and react with the light. Hence, we chose to be accompanied in the narrative of Skin’s compositions by Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida who designs space, matter, voids and light. In Skin Texture, the handle’s empty space becomes a frame in which to compose vertical and horizontal lines, suggesting a pleasant interference in the conventional way of conceiving kitchen systems. Skin encourages experimentation in the kitchen since each composition can make use of vertical and horizontal elements, creating the framework in which to work with different materials, whether stone, wood, lacquers, clay, ... Here, we decided to combine stone, wood and lacquered surfaces on a stainless steel frame. The challenge of combining different materials, contrasting the lightness and softness of wood with the resilience of stone and its rich natural textures, and the neutrality of white lacquered surfaces, allows the space to be subtly enriched with a welcoming ambiance that is sufficient to furnish and transform the kitchen into a living space. By including the user in the design and selection of materials, through this project the kitchen becomes space, but also a rich and elegant product reflecting their unique personality. Skin 02_Chic Skin Chic suggerisce l’eleganza. Adatto per qualsiasi ambiente, Skin Chic diventa spazio nello spazio. La composizione mette in discussione l’isola convenzionale, la spezza per creare un piano all’interno sospeso tra due elementi più tradizionali. E’ questo scarto, questa pausa, questo vuoto che arricchisce di potenzialità la cucina suggerendo di poter essere utilizzata per lavorare, studiare, giocare, cenare e preparare il cibo insieme. E’ un vuoto che attende di essere condiviso, abitato. Skin Chic è disponibile anche nella soluzione sospesa che rivela la grande flessibilità del profilo maniglia, capace di trasformarsi in una struttura portante che rende leggero l’attacco a terra dell’isola, sospeso su eleganti piedini sagomati. La scansione alternata di colonne e vetrine scandite dal segno sottile della maniglia verticale, arricchiscono l’ambiente di trasparenze, di ombre che si accendono rivelandosi quando illuminate. Questa composizione di Skin si è rivelata cosí ricca di potenzialità che abbiamo scelto di lavorare su un unica tonalità scura della materia, che cerca la sua ricchezza nelle delicate venature della pietra, nelle trasparenze del vetro, nelle ombre delle maniglie verticali e orizzontali. Proprio il colore scuro rende chiaro il concetto di Skin, la forza di un dettaglio, la maniglia, che rivela il mondo che racchiude. Skin 02_Chic Skin Chic evokes elegance. Suitable for any setting, Skin Chic becomes a space within the space. The composition overturns the traditional notion of an island, breaking it up to create an internal top suspended between two more traditional elements. It is this gap, this pause, this void that enriches the kitchen’s potential, suggesting that it can be used as a place to work, study, play, dine and prepare food together. It is a gap waiting to be shared, and lived in. Skin Chic is also available in a suspended version, showcasing the incredible adaptability of the handle profile, which can be used as a supporting structure, lightening the connection between the floor and island, suspended on elegantly shaped feet. The alternating tall units and glass units, subtly articulated by the vertical handle, enrich the space with transparencies and shadows that come to life and reveal themselves when lit. Given the wealth of inherent potential in this Skin composition, we decided to focus on a single, dark shade of the material that searches for richness in the subtle veining of the stone, the transparencies of the glass, and the shadows of the vertical and horizontal handles. Skin 03_Timeless Timeless rappresenta il DNA della collezione SKIN. Abitiamo spazi fluidi dove sono scomparse le stanze, i muri, le porte. Timeless trasforma uno spazio cieco tra due grandi vetrate in una cucina. E’ un sistema di colonne verticali che si possono aprire con ante a scomparsa o folding e che trasformano una parte dello spazio in una parete attrezzata, che scompare una volta terminata la sua funzione. Ma Timeless non è un semplice sistema di ante. Gli elementi delle maniglie verticali che caratterizzano Skin si trasformano in una struttura: disegnano la potenzialità di un sistema che scarta sulle linee verticali quasi fosse la facciata di un edificio, che apre le sue finestre quando la cucina si attiva. L’essenzialità esterna, tenuta volutamente in laccato bianco, quasi fosse una parete, esplode all’interno con librerie, cantine, elettrodomestici, cassettiere, frigoriferi, forni che mettono in forma il teatro della cucina con i suoi sapori e odori per poi richiudersi silenziosamente e diventare il disegno sofisticato di una zona living. La composizione si completa con il tavolo di @HOME SYSTEM, questa volta spogliato della parte della cottura, perché qui è già presente all’interno di SKIN. Questa commistione dei due sistemi è tuttavia un carattere importante che rappresenta la continuità del lavoro di C+S Architects con Elmar: una conversazione che, continua nel tempo arricchendosi di forme e significati e che permette ai fruitori di poter mescolare e reinventare i sistemi adattandoli alle rappresentazioni della propria personale idea di cucina. Skin 03_Timeless Timeless is the DNA of the SKIN collection. Today, we live in fluid spaces where boundaries, rooms and doors no longer exist. Timeless transforms a blind space between two large windows into a kitchen. It is a composition of vertical tall units featuring pocket or folding doors transforming part of the space into an equipped wall that disappears each time its function is fulfilled. But Timeless is not just a simple door system. Skin’s signature vertical handles become structural components, outlining the potential of a system that vertically develops like the walls of a building, throwing open its windows when the kitchen comes to life. The essential exterior, deliberately lacquered in white like a wall, explodes on the inside with bookshelves, wine racks, household appliances, drawer units, fridges and ovens with all the flavours and smells of the theatre that is the kitchen, before silently drawing the curtain to become a sophisticated living room design. The composition is rounded out by the @HOME SYSTEM table now stripped of the cooking component, housed here inside SKIN. The interplay between the two systems is nonetheless significant, exemplifying the ongoing collaboration between C+S Architects and Elmar.
