/NASCIAMONEL 1976 SUI MONTI LESSINI NEI DIN- TORNI DI VERONA, A 1.100 MTDI ALTEZZA /GUARDARE ALLANATURA /looking to nature /we founded our company in 1976, at an altitude of 1,100 metres, in the lessini mountains near verona It was 1976 when Carlo Scandola, who has always loved the lush greenery of his valleys, sensed that the area near Verona, the Lessini mountains where his people lived, was the perfect place to teach and find the traditional skills he wanted for his furni- ture business, regardless of the logistic problems this location entailed. This is why he decided to make his business grow in Bosco Chiesanuova. This was a daring yet farsighted choice, aimed at helping the strongest and healthiest workforce in his village decide to stay put instead of following the usual trend, abandoning their homes in search of work elsewhere. Carlo Scandola’s experience in the woodwork business began as an artisan’s employee when he was 23. In a period of seven years Carlo was entrusted with many tasks culminating in his appoin- tment as production manager. During this time Carlo learnt the art of cabinet making and how to take on management tasks and face responsibility. He then opened his own woodworking business doing contract work for other manufacturers in his workshop, later supplemented with the production and sale of his own line of furniture. These were the early years, willpo- wer and enthusiasm were the driving forces behind his steadily growing success that culminated in the creation of his own sales network. In the beginning his customers were all located in the mountain area but, as time went by, his product gradual- ly matured, taking on its own distinctive personality, becoming independent and expanding to other regions in Italy. When the first catalogues were distributed his sales network began to expand throughout Italy and abroad. Carlo started to look into styles that had their roots deeply embedded in tradition, deter- mined to bridge the gap between the past and the future with his ambitious projects. In 1995 growing production demands turned the construction of a new factory, able to meet the re- quirements of the company’s current turnover, into a necessity. He put together a team of efficient, skilled and loyal collabo- rators who enthusiastically pooled their abilities to meet the requirements of Scandola’s future developments including the addition of new types of furniture, opening up to new challen- ges and frontiers. Carlo Scandola believes in traditional values, in authentic materials, in the warmth of his people, in solidarity and family. He takes these themes and somehow transforms them into the spirit of his furniture. Scandola Mobili currently has 62 employees excluding its owner and, pursuant to some extension work, now covers an area of 10,000 m2. The com- pany also has various agencies distributed all over Italy and in some European countries.
